Rec suffered on the wrong-end of an eight-goal Barnsley
derby against Worsbrough Bridge, six goals coming in the first-half, as they
were beaten 6-2 in the NCEL Division One.
Rec found themselves three goals behind through Josh Brown, Jake Keelan and Lewis O’Connor within half an hour on Friday evening at the Totally Training Stadium.
Six minutes later, Rec cut the deficit to one through Nathan
Perks’ eleventh goal of the season and a Harrison Landon strike before Lloyd
Smith returned the lead to two for the break.
Grist, from 30-yards, found the opposite top corner in
added-time, succeeding Glavin’s spot-kick as the lead was extended in the
second-half.
Dylan Hough’s debut in goal was accompanied by the returns of Nathan Perks, Kenneth Effah & Jimmy Pursell from Rec's previous fixture thirteen days prior.
The intent was quickly established from Worsbrough who’s first
thought was to look over Rec’s defence. The initial part is a success on
several occasions without no end result in the opening five minutes.
Brown’s opener followed the trend and when one-on-one, rounded Hough with an open net to finish inside six minutes.
The high tempo is continued by Worsbrough even wide left, an
early delivery too far ahead of the hosts’ forward, Hough the one to meet the
ball at his far post, pushing wide.
The resulting corner is cleared only to Brown outside the
box to strike but it came to nothing.
Jake Keelan earned himself an open net to put in Worsbrough's second, blocking the Rec ‘keeper’s
clearance. Having got in the way of the kick, the ball
fortunately dropped ahead of the forward who simply had to tap in.
Grist’s run beyond Rec’s backline this time had James Byford for company,
sliding in to push the ball behind.
Finley Durkin’s feet were being utilised as Rec’s out ball whilst
Worsbrough pushed men forward. Once received, he was willing to run at his opposing full-back, nullified thus far.
Smith’s wider on the next move for Worsbrough, inside the
left-channel of Rec’s box, suited to cut in but the build-up
is let down by the final shot raised well over.
Lewis O’Connor had some bodies to beat for the third, finding
the bottom right-hand corner from distance. The ball looked stuck in the turf
on his first touch but he’s able to extend his right leg, keeping the ball low
in the meantime to beat Hough.
Durkin was unsurprisingly involved in Rec’s short revival, a
Perks header finishing the move on the half-hour mark. Durkin received to feet
and got round his defender before delivering a right-footed cross all the way to
the back post, pin-point for Perks to divert the ball back across goal and in.
Harrison Landon’s strike to make it 3-2 was from an almost
identical position inside the box, finished into the bottom right-hand corner.
Hough kept the gap at one on fourty-two minutes when a low
cross from Grist, who was running out of space when running towards the
touchline, found it’s target but Hough reacted quickly to raise his hands to
his left to hold.
After hitting the bar just minutes earlier, Smith added
Worsbrough fourth before the break, this time Hough unable to deny a close-range
finish following a wide delivery.
Holt too connected a shot off the bar, a half-volley on a
ninety-degree turn, the ball bypassing everyone in the box infront of him from
the throw from the right,
Perks continues to be found by Rec’s direct attempts,
winning a flick on, aware of Durkin’s run on his outside but the Worsbrough
defender read it too and slid in to put the ball behind.
A miscommunication between Worsbrough ‘keeper Harry Ambler
and his centre-half led to the no.1 finally clearing the ball but out of
position, Luke Micklethwaite tempted from distance without success.
Pursell’s advanced from his converted right-back position
but must take the shot early, that or the distance, 30-yards, causing him to hit too far underneath the ball.
Pursell himself was beaten before fouling inside his own
box, resulting in Worsbrough’s penalty, Glavin converting to the left of Hough.
Sam Thompson was the favourite at the far post when found by James
Woodhouse across the other side of the box, he has time to control first and
then shoot against the woodwork, rebounded safe.
Perks had an opportunity as we entered added-time from
25-yards out with a free-kick. He tested Ambler by curling the ball round the
wall, pushing wide.
The final contribution of the match was the most notable,
Grist from 30-yards out finding the top corner of the opposite side. He’s behind
the left-hand side of Rec’s defence, being closed in by the covering defender
so forced to shoot early, out of Hough’s reach.
Rec visit Appleby Frodingham on the 7th December
next in the NCEL Division One.
